Both Pula and the charming town of Medulin are easily accessible. Pula is a historic town and the ideal choice for those who enjoy sightseeing. The most famous Roman monument in Pula, the start and end point of any sightseeing tour, is the amphitheater, commonly known as the Arena of Pula, where gladiator fights once took place. It was built in the 1st century AD during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, the same period as the magnificent Colosseum in Rome. Today it is a venue for summer events - film festival, opera season, equestrian festival, concerts and theater performances. The underground tunnels, once used by gladiators, now serve as an exhibition venue.
