**** The Neighbourhood:
Kastel Stafilic is one of the seven Dalmatian settlements that all together comprise the town of Kastela. There are seven Kastelas and all of them run along the coast of the bay of Kastela. Each of these settlements was built around its castles and each one of them carries its distinctive historical story. If you are heading from Trogir to Split Kastel Stafilic is the first one you will come upon.
During the summer season the life in Kastel Stafilic gets very lively and busy with lots of folk festivities and concerts organized.
In Kastel Stafilic there are numerous cultural and historical sites, and the beaches of Kastel Stafilic are the most beautiful and attractive of all the seven Kastelas on the Kastela Riviera. So if you are looking for a vacation spot that can offer you all the aspects of an active holiday this would be your spot.
From here you can take organized group or private car excursions or private car transfers to visit the nearby old towns of Trogir and Split, and the archaeological site of the ancient Salona or if you are a nature lover then head to the National Parks Krka and Plitvice. For a trip to the National Park Kornati there are private or group boat excursions on a daily basis, or you can hire a private boat transfer.
Kastel Stafilic - Attractions
The Kastel (fort) in Stafilic known as the tower Rotondo was built in 1508. on a small sea reef by a nobleman Stjepan Stafileo from Trogir. The tower is connected by a drawbridge to the mainland.
In the center there is also a parish church made in Renaissance and Baroque style from the 18th century.
Walking by the seaside will take you to the small and uncompleted but nevertheless the most picturesque fort Nehaj. The two nobles from Trogir, brothers Ludovik and Ivan Lodi started building it in 1548, having a great and luxurious construction in mind.
In Kastel Stafilic you can see an old olive tree that is estimated to be around 1500 years old. It is a protected natural monument because it belongs to the species of olive tree that is not found in this area and was most probably brought here from Italy or Greece.
In the nearby Kastel Luksic you can visit a gorgeous botanical garden that was made in 1976 along with the school next to it. It covers an area of 4 hectares and is a home to various domestic and exotic plant species. Many of the exotic species that were brought here got successfully acclimated for the first time to our region in this very botanical garden.
The Nature Reserve Pantan not far from Trogir is all that is left of once a very large swamp area. Through the centuries this large swamp started diminishing in size due to various geological processes and urbanization. But nevertheless it is still a very valuable and typical sample of a swamp on the east coast of Adriatic where the salt and fresh water get mixed. The swamp is a resort to many bird species on their migrating path. The old mill in Pantan has been renovated a few years ago and has become a tourist attraction.
Group or private car excursions are available every day during the season to take you to these famous historical sites and National Parks, but can also easily be organized in the after season as well.
For a trip to the islands of Solta, Brac and Hvar you can take a private boat transfer or rent a boat with or without crew. National Park Kornati can be visited by taking a one day group or private boat excursion.
We recommend Kastel Stafilic for a family vacation, and the vicinity of Split, the tourist metropolis of Central Dalmatia, and Trogir, medieval pearl guarantee all kinds of fun and numerous historical and interesting places where you can go during the day or in the evening.
