Positive: If you choose to stay on the island of Sipan, this place is a VERY LOVELY option at the Sudurad end, and excellent value for money in what is now an expensive tourist desination (Dalmatian coast). The view from this apartment's patio (no 4) was gorgeous , and so were the grapes on the grape vine (August)! There are no cars in the village (they park to one side), and the car ferry is hidden from view. So it is quiet and quaint. There is a small, clean marina with a few basic boats and beach immediately outside the house - no fishing boats, so you can swim and paddle board on the doorstep. Alternatively it's an easy walk 200m in either direction to two small beaches with roped-buoys. The water temperature is very good for swimming. Guests of the apartments can use two SUP boards, and there are approx 7 sturdy bikes (helmets are also provided). It's whoever's first. There was a newly installed basketball court / Futsal pitch for public use 200 m away (bring your own ball). Walks. The apartment manual includes a phone number for kayak hire (we didn't see this until later), but we found an excellent business operating on Lopud (Adriatic Kayak Tours). The apartment is one of a small number neatly organised within an attractive stone building. The other guests were pleasant and quiet. The apartment was beautifully clean. It had a good selection of utensils in the kitchen, and very good wifi. There was a small convenience store a couple of doors down the path, but be aware that its stock was limited and often low. For example, there was very little fruit and no eggs, and fresh loaves sold out. Sudurad village had a two basic restaurants and a hotel restaurant with much the same food on offer, and 4 bars for drinks. There's no bakery, gelateria or fruit/veg store anywhere on the island. The apartment manual includes a phone number for fruit/veg delivery, but we didn't try it.

Negative: There are some things that visitors should be aware of, to avoid disappointment. But I would say that the apartment is very good value despite these issues. The apartment is tight for space and surface areas (eg you can't just throw your suitcase open). There's a simple toastie maker, rather than a toaster. There's a stove coffee pot, but no cafetiere. We wiggled things around. The aircon in the main room is good and strong, but weak in the bedrooms. Windows have good insect screens. A SUP board was missing it's tail fin, and several bikes were permanently out of action with flat tyres when we were there. (there is a very small business offering bike hire nearby which would have been an alternative if we had been bothered). If a storm comes (rare), ferries are cancelled and the convenience store has even less stock. Small boatloads of day trippers visit Sudurad during the day, but they disperse around the bars and souvenir stores and aren't an issue. The stones and rocks can be sharp - so take water shoes for the whole family. Sipanska Luka is more geared up for tourists but is less quaint. It has approx 10 restaurants and a bigger convenience store. It's marina is bigger and busier with larger boats; less suitable for family swimming. There is a beautiful swimming beach up the far end of Sipanska's bay, with a popular bar, a few sun loungers, and a water polo area. The car-free island of Lopud is more tourist-oriented than Sipan. It has a strip of restaurants along a waterfront, a gelateria, several convenience stores including bakeries, souvenir offerings, beach gear for several beaches, a kayak business. It has a very large hotel, attracted by a bit of sand, that seems to support the greater density of businesses. So to sum up - this apartment is a great option. Just take a moment to consider which part of the Elaphiti Islands to base your family. Sudurad is quiet, quaint and pretty with outdoor activities.
